Seminar Against Homosexuality
By Ultimate Media
22nd February  2009

Family Life Network has organized a training seminar to equip Ugandans with information and skills to fight what it calls spiraling promotion of homosexuality in the country.

The Executive Director of Family Life Network, Stephen Langa says that Uganda is now under extreme pressure from homosexual groups to de-criminalize homosexuality.

He says homosexuals in the country were boosted by a December 2008 Court victory which declared that it is unconstitutional to discriminate against homosexuals and that they should enjoy the same rights as enjoyed by other Ugandans.

Langa in a statement today said several homosexual groups are active in Uganda and are busy recruiting school boys and girls at an alarming rate using a variety of methods.

Mini skirts to be banned
By Ali Balunywa, AfricaNews reporter, Almere Netherlands

 20th September 2008

Uganda is at it again as a government minister proposes the banning of miniskirts! Mr. Nsaba Buturo, the ethics and integrity minister says miniskirts should be banned because women wearing them distract drivers and cause traffic accidents.

According to the New Vision, a daily newspaper in Kampala, wearing a miniskirt should be regarded as “indecent”, which would be punishable under Ugandan law; Buturo told a press conference in Uganda’s capital Kampala last Wednesday. He riled against the dangers facing those inadvertently distracted by short skirts. “If you find a naked person, you begin to concentrate on the make-up of that person and yet you are driving,” he said.

Arbitrary detention of LGBTI activists

(George Oundo and Kiiza Brendah)

UGANDA - 18 September 2008: Turmoil has erupted once again in Uganda as police clamp down on homosexuals in that country, which started this Monday 15 September.

Two men have already been arrested and charged with ‘recruitment of homosexuals', something which, according to Human Rights Watch, is not even a legislation in Uganda's laws.

Many members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community are in hiding avoiding detention as it is believed police are in possession of a list of about 40 people said to be homosexuals in that country.

Controversy began when two men, who identified themselves as Police, but not in uniform, budged into the home of Oundo George and arrested him together with his friend only known as Kiiza last week.

The two were taken to Nalukologolo Police Post after Oundo's house was searched and LGBTI literature was found and confiscated.

They were then transferred to Nabweru Police Post and have not been brought before court despite Uganda's constitution which prescribes that a person can only remain in custody for a maximum of 48 hours.
